This porcelain plate is decorated with brightly coloured enamel and gold on the glaze. The motif of the three friends of winter (shochikubai), popular in Chinese and Japanese art, is presented on white glaze in the centre. This motif comprises the pine, bamboo, and plum, symbolising resilience to unfavourable conditions. The lip of the plate is divided into three sections with images of stylised plum trees, waves, and tortoiseshell motifs.
